Hello. I purchased a Starling 2 Max development drone and when attempting a first flight test I discovered that one of the batteries arrived entirely dead. I was curious if there was a way to receive replacements, and if this falls within replacement territory. I contacted the support email and was directed here. I can provide more information if needed.

Hello everyone, I am looking for some expert advice on a VOXL 2 companion computer setup for a long-range platform. I have two main integration challenges: Challenge A: VIO at Higher Altitudes To solve the motion blur and pixel density issues at higher altitudes, I am planning a 6-camera configuration. I want to use 4 downward-facing sensors (2 daylight + 2 IR) equipped with narrow-angle lenses, alongside 2 standard wide-angle sensors (front and rear). Could you advise on the best supported sensors (e.g., IMX series) for this? Has anyone successfully tuned the voxl-qvio-server for narrow-angle lenses, and what were the altitude limits you achieved? Challenge B: LAN Integration & WireGuard The payload data flow will be: External RTSP Camera -> Ethernet -> VOXL 2 (WireGuard encryption) -> Ethernet -> Digital RX. Because VOXL 2 lacks multiple LAN ports, I will need a miniature industrial Ethernet switch. Does ModalAI have any tested hardware recommendations for this? Furthermore, what is the best practice for routing this VPN traffic through the VOXL 2 Ubuntu environment without bottlenecking the CPU? We are currently evaluating the VOXL 2 for a broader fleet deployment and want to ensure the ecosystem can support this custom optics requirement. Any feedback on off-the-shelf solutions or standard configurations for this use case would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

@nl_vdi , if you log into developer.modalai.com, you will see the CAD models. the latest model we have is: D0012-4-V3-C28-M36-T7-K0-Starling2-Max-V3-20260317.step [image: 1781036132877-376bf0dd-494a-4bf1-8d92-1b2d91afb83d-image.png]

Hi, The same software stack runs on both VOXL and VOXL2, in which we have a voxl-mapper project for mapping/planning (though this is still firmly in beta and under active development by our team). The VOXL is capable of performing the mapping on its own, but the software stack is heavy and will take up a larger portion of the processing power on the weaker board. The VOXL2 is able to support more sensors and more processing, but with the obvious tradeoff of the higher price point. It'll be dependent on your use case which one you will want to use.

Hi, We've never tested QVIO on the hires cam, it's been extensively tuned for the fisheye tracking camera and benefits heavily from having a wide field of view. I suspect that this is where you issue originates. You are more than welcome to try this but you'll need to make sure that you've calibrated the hires camera and have defined accurate extrinsics between the camera and the IMU, but even with these done well it's likely to behave worse than the wide FOV tracking camera.

We have the full toolchain and setup dockerized here: https://gitlab.com/voxl-public/rb5-flight/rb5-flight-px4-build-docker Following that setup, you will install the Hexagon SDK which provides more info on the lower level stuff. But, the PX4 code as shown above is what runs on the DSP.

@Yusuf-Saib If you do ifconfig on your host machine you will get the IP address of that, not of the VOXL. So in your output it looks like you are trying to ssh to yourself.

VOXL comes in the VOXL-Flight configuration, which basically mates up an STM32 based flight controller (the Flight Core v1) with VOXL, then there's an internal UART connecting the two, and you can control the Flight Controller with 8-PWM outputs. VOXL2 does support (currently in beta) the VOXL2 IO board which provides PWM outputs, and we've used it on a hex. See here for info on that use case. Again, this is in beta (not directly in the VOXL SDK at this point but in the dev channel). Depending on your size constraints, VOXL2 also can be used like VOXL-Flight, where you can use an external flight controller (like Flight Core) externally, which has 8-ch PWM. See here for info on that use case. (Why not native PWM? The VOXL/VOXL2 platforms are Snapdragon 820/865 based, which are primarily used in cell phones.... The PWM feature is not needed in cell phones, so these type of SoCs don't generally have native PWM...)

Hi @Wei-Cui , If using system image 1.3 for the RB5 (865 platform), this means you now have the VOXL SDK, which uses voxl-streamer From https://developer.modalai.com/ You have: [image: 1661874180480-9e266117-f01e-4e9e-b407-8cf675abc131-image.png] Which at this point has this release: [image: 1661874097851-3a34a1d7-0ae6-4a80-809b-284733001bb6-image.png] This is a different architecture than the RB5 Flight SDK, which is not getting feature updates. The VOXL SDK is what our core software team is developing on and will continue to get all the new features and updates.
