Red blinking light when connecting WiFi
-
-
Also, what battery type? We ship with 4S parameters, so the red LED might be simply a low battery warning due to a different battery layout.
-
What do you mean when you say that you can see VOXL on your computer? Is that via adb or WiFi? And when you say it won't connect, are you referring to PX4 on the drone not connecting to QGroundControl?
-
Hi Guys,
I'm trying to connect via WiFi. I can see VOXL on my WiFi networks and can connect to it. The connection symbol on my Windows machine turns from a signal symbol to a world symbol when I'm connected. Ground Control does not see the PX4 when it says connected. The battery is: Zeee 5200mAh 50C 11.1V 3S RC Lipo Battery. -
hi @Ward-Javoronok ,
The red LED is likely the default PX4 setup stating that it sees a low battery, as our default config is for a 4S battery. Until you change the battery param in QGC, it will likely be red (this not associated to connection between PX4 and QGC).
Once the m500 is on the same IP network as your windows machine, you need to configure the network settings such that the m500 sends traffic do your host system.
Have you see this page: https://docs.modalai.com/voxl-vision-px4-telemetry/
It describes how to setup the network parameters. Note you need to adb onto the system over USB in order to modify these files: https://docs.modalai.com/setup-adb/
Also, Windows has firewall settings that can block connections, you'll likely want to turn off the windows firewall: https://docs.qgroundcontrol.com/master/en/Support/troubleshooting_qgc.html#waiting_for_connection

Can you help me set up m500 on the same IP network windows machine over a video call?
-
Hey @Ward-Javoronok , before a call we need to get some basic functionality setup on your end that has a lot of good documentation.
One thing to note, is you can use a USB cable to get a connection between the m500 and QGC if you don't want do deal with networking.
This "USB to QGC" connector (likely this connector is blue on your end):
If you want to continue with the networking route:

Can you "adb" onto the m500? We can use this to update config files. If not:
https://docs.modalai.com/setup-adb/ -
Are you using the m500 in "Access Point" mode or in "Station" mode? If out of the box, then you are using "Access Point".

Thanks for working with me. Is ADB: android debug bridge? I’m using the out of box mode. I guess it’s access point.
-
No problem! We are generally on Ubuntu so our docs are geared towards that, but we test on Windows setups, and besides the possible firewall issue (if using WiFi), then it should be OK.
Yes for android debug bridge on windows, check out this: https://www.xda-developers.com/install-adb-windows-macos-linux/#adbsetupwindows
I also forgot about a video that walks through the WiFi setup, it's using the 'guts' of the m500, but is relevant: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQraPU4pFiY

I'm not good at this stuff yet but I will learn from you and share my learning with others. I'm excited to get this thing flying. I have spoken to Chad about my plans in building a solution for a large retail customer in Atlanta. I'm a sales guy hungry to learn this stuff and will be a good student of your direction. Forgive me if I ask novice questions.

@modaltb Do I need an Android devise to download ADB? I don't have an Android devise. Do I need ADB to connect the drone or program the drone?
-
Hi @Ward-Javoronok ,
No need for Android, you can use Windows, you can install adb using this link: https://www.xda-developers.com/install-adb-windows-macos-linux/#adbsetupwindows
The "Android" term is used because the VOXL hardware is based off an Android phone in many ways, and these are developer tools used for this type of hardware.
If you just need a connection to QGC, you can use the little 4-pin JST to microUSB cable adapter that shipped with the m500 and connect it here: https://docs.modalai.com/flight-core-connections/#usb (note, you connector might be blue).
So if you just want to setup the Flight Controller (PX4), you can simply use this connection and avoid ADB.
-
I plugged in the JST microUSB connection into my computer with QGC opened. QGC does not see the m500. I tried to set up vehicle firmware but it is not QGC is not recognizing anything. I tried unplugging and plugging it in with QGC opened and tried rebooting QGC but neither worked.

Can we do a short video call now please?
