Inquiry About ModalAI Flight Controller Compatibility for Heavy-Lift Drone
-
I am evaluating various flight controllers and came across your products, which seem highly capable and versatile. I am particularly interested in understanding whether your VOXL or VOXL 2 would be suitable for a heavy-lift drone application (around 15 to 20kg)
Does your flight controller support high-current motor setups typically used for heavy-lift drones?
Are there any specific configurations or add-ons needed for optimal integration in such applications?
Would you recommend any additional components from your product line to enhance performance for this use case?
Your expertise and guidance would be invaluable in helping me determine if ModalAI products are a good fit for this project. -

For that size drone, you likely need ESCs larger than we offer. In that case, you should use a flight controller that works with ESCs spec'd for your platform. VOXL 2 would be a companion computer in that case https://docs.modalai.com/voxl2-external-flight-controller/

@Moderator Actually the ESCs are integrated in the motors and the specs are 60A 12S. We're using an Integrated Propulsion System (Motor+FOC ESC) from T-motor, the XUX-8 one. Still I have to find a another flight controller different from yours ?

@Mouhamed-Ndoye What is the interface to control these propulsion units? Is it standard PWM? VOXL does not have a flight controller integrated, it is only a companion computer. But VOXL 2 and VOXL 2 mini support either PX4 or ArduPilot. They, however, do not have any PWM outputs. You would need to use our VOXL 2 Digital IO expander board (https://www.modalai.com/products/voxl2-io?variant=40610514206771) in addition to the VOXL 2 to get that added capability.
