No devices listed when checking ADB Devices

I am trying to find the list of attached devices and nothing pops up when I adb devices within my Ubuntu Client. I have followed the video given by ModalAI for the flight quick start and am using a VM on my personal computer. I do not know what the issue is that I am facing so early into my voxl flight deck installation.

Not sure if USB is exposed into your VM, or if that is possible? Can you type
$ lsusbAnd share if anything shows up?
