VOXL ESC power
-
Hi,
We have a VOXL flight deck 1 and VOXL 4-in-1 ESC V2, and I have some questions about powering the VOXL ESC V2 and its connection with motors.the first question is how to power the ESC? is there any specific port on the Voxl flight deck and a cable by which I can power the ESC? or should we go with a PDB to do so as per usual?
Also, what capacitor do you recommend for powering the Voxl ESC v2?Regarding the hardware connections, in case I wanted to use the port J1007 - 8-Channel PWM / 4-Channel DShot ESC Output Connector of the flight deck with a cable MCBL-00004 to the PWM Breakout Board, do you sell any cable to connect PWM Breakout Board to the Voxl ESC v2?
Best,

Hi @mbahrami ,
Our flight deck is optimally suited towards PWM based ESCs since it incorporates our Flight Core design with PWM control easily accessible. So I am trying to find out from our SW team which UART port is best for the ModalAI 4-in-1 ESC Digital Comms port in this config.Regarding powering your ESCS, the way we have our power module designed is to allow a "pass-through" of the 2S-4S VLIPO battery voltage (the ESC is rated to 4S). So, you would use 1 battery, connect it to our Power Module VLIPO input which powers the Flight Deck as shown in the Technical Docs section:
https://docs.modalai.com/flight-deck-userguide/#f-power-input
And then on the "output" of the VLIPO path on the Power Module, you can use that to power the ESC. https://docs.modalai.com/power-module-v3-datasheet/We have not had any need for any extra capacitors in our systems, so we do not have any recommendation there. I would test first without added parts/weight, and you might find you are very well off. We go to great lengths to design really robust power delivery systems.
When I get an answer from SW about using the ESC UART port, I'll respond again.
Thanks! -
Default UART for the ESC driver is here:

No flow control.... really just need GND, Rx, Tx
