    • RE: OpenVPN TLS Handshake Failed

To all that might come across this, updating to OpenVPN 2.4.6 solved this issue. Note that a reset of the VOXL is required before the upgrade will take hold.

Also, if you are using the vpn-start service, do not use the full file path that is there by default; instead just use the openvpn call like you would in a terminal and use the file path to sudo /usr/bin/sudo before the openvpn call like this:

      /usr/bin/sudo openvpn --daemon --script-security 2 --config mykeys.ovpn

If you don't make this change, it will try to run the older version of openVPN and will run into all kinds of issues.

    • OpenVPN TLS Handshake Failed

I'm trying to run OpenVPN and it seems like it can't establish the TCP connection for the tunnel.

I'm getting the follow output from OpenVPN:
      379e3911-515f-4c1e-a45b-3af237ee6bfa-image.png

Not sure what is the most important line here but the TLS handshake failed might be something.

I did create a device on the OpenVPN portal and exported the .opvn file. Then I ran:

      openvpn --script-security 2 --config mykeys.ovpn

(did it not a daemon to see the outputs)

The drone is connected to over wlan0 and I can confirm network connection with a successful ping of google.com

Thanks in advance for any help.

    • RE: M500 Altitude Issues

@Chad-Sweet We are using the ModalAI firmware. We can get you some logs for you to look into.

We have seen this issue so far on 5 of the m500 platforms that we've received in the last 3 months with varying levels of consistency (sometime altitude is correct right away, sometimes it takes some time, sometimes it figures itself out on takeoff.) We will be testing 20 more m500 vehicles in the coming week and I will let you know if they have the same issues.

Chiming in because since I'm on OPs' team. Do you mean completely disable it through voxl-vision-px4? It was disable from the FCU side in terms of the EKF aid mask was not using the VIO inputs (EKF2_AID_MASK = 1.) Will the VIO messages continue to affect the vehicles state estimation even if the EKF should not be reading in those measurements?

    • RE: VIO for Outdoors

Yes, understood and that's part of the answer I expect. My bigger question though is if there is a way to tune the feature detection algorithm and or camera settings to be better suited for outdoor GPS denied flight.

    • VIO for Outdoors

I am going to be using the VIO for outdoor GPS denied flight using a stock m500. The environment will be sunny and have a mix of trees, roadways, and flat patches of grass. From what I'm gathering from reading through some forum posts, the VIO is generally setup for indoor flight out of the box. Is there a configuration that is better suited for outdoor VIO that does 1) handles sunny/well lit areas 2) allows it to pick up more features (maybe lowering the confidence required for something to recognized as a feature.) 3) assumes there are going to be zero indoor flights (as is the case for my vehicles.)

This is kind of a nebulous post and I apologize for that. For some context, when I flew my vehicle at around 6 feet in a field of rocky soil and patchy vegetation I was able to pick up numerous feature points. Once I got to around 20ft or greater, I lost all feature points. I tried pointing the VIO camera towards trees, rows of new newly growing vegetation, a gravel road and got nothing. I was able to pick up a few points when I pointed the camera towards a barn that was near by (yes I test on a farm.) To my understanding, trees, rocks and vegetation might not be the most robust objects for detecting features but I find it hard to believe that there were zero trackable features. Anyways, any help or ideas would be useful and I can post more info if needed, there's just a little bit of a phase lag (its a long drive out to the farm to collect data.)

    • RE: volx-mavlink-server PX4 Disconnected From UART

@tom I updated to the newest firmware, then ran the voxl-configure-mpa wizard and I'm still getting PX4 DISCONNECTED FROM UART when I check the mavlink-server status. (I can see the visual odometry messages on wireshark, like before. Just not other mav messages.)

      b34b4a6f-5f51-4892-8750-f6ce5f226cc4-image.png

The mavlink-server config files looks like this:

      914f0510-5884-4aaa-86cf-dd7d9d482ddf-image.png

And my px4 serial params look like this:

      5a53c652-30dd-43f9-be22-51e9a478b77b-image.png

      So still no dice.

    • RE: volx-mavlink-server PX4 Disconnected From UART

@tom Copy that, I'll try the update and see if that fixes anything. We haven't modified the board or anything since receiving it so I'm not sure why something would have gone with the UART connection of all things.

    • RE: volx-mavlink-server PX4 Disconnected From UART

@tom Thanks for answer! I'll give the upgrade a shot. That is probably the only thing I haven't tried yet. I should have mentioned in my original post also that I'm using a flight deck. I think that's why this is most confusing to me. All of the UART connections are board level so I can't be messing those up.

    • RE: volx-mavlink-server PX4 Disconnected From UART

@Steve-Turner Valid points, I'll check the voxl-configure-mpa but I'm pretty positive I've run that already. I'll give it a go anyways.

As for the mavlink-server config file. I've checked that so many times I see it in my sleep now.

I'm actually using the flight deck so all the connections aren't really up to me.

      I'll try the upgrade.

    • RE: volx-mavlink-server PX4 Disconnected From UART

@modalab @Moderator @admin can someone help with this? We are testing this product for clients and if I can't even get comms working out of the gate it's kind of a bust. Your website says this is the spot to ask questions and there are no other means of technical help but it has been almost two weeks with no response. I just need AN answer. Did I get a bad unit? Is the firmware bad? Am I not giving enough info? Anything helps.

    • RE: volx-mavlink-server PX4 Disconnected From UART

As an update, I downgraded the voxl image to 3.6.0 to see if there was some sort of incompatibility issue. It seems like on 3.8.0 voxl-vision-px4 does not do serve MAVLINK messages (that's why I must start mavlink-server.) On 3.6.0, voxl-vision-px4 attempts to serve MAVLINK but still returns the PX4 DISCONNECTED FROM UART error. So, still stumped, any insight would be helpful.

    • volx-mavlink-server PX4 Disconnected From UART

When I try to run voxl-mavlink-server I consistently get PX4 disconnect from UART.
      b32fd76d-0dc0-4f90-8a42-4e6e0e6d68f4-image.png
voxl-vision-px4 does not actually send mavlink message to QGC, except for the visual odometry message. That does go through.

My PX4 parameters for proper serial all seem to be correct:

      f2ad0eeb-6e5a-4eac-ae9f-8c10e3c8a30f-image.png

When I run the nuttx shell, the shell starts but I get no responses:
      d89f32e9-4089-4fa0-957e-5ea5d3eaf924-image.png

      Flight Core PX4 version: 1.13.1
      Voxl image version: 3.8.0

My goal is to connect via a microhard setup. I have the microhard setup complete properly. I can ping the vehicles computer. I can see the visual odometry messages from vision-px4. I can SSH into the vehicle over microhard. I just can't start mavlink-server to get those sweet sweet mavlink messages flowing through the air. Any help would be appreciated, even if it's "your flight deck is bad, send it back and get a new one."

      nvm, solved it.

Had to enable and run the service voxl-mavlink-server first, then do the same with the voxl-vision-px4 service.

I'll leave this here for posterity

When I run voxl vision debug it gets hung up at "Init complete, entering main loop"

    • Can't Connect to QGC Microhard

Alright everyone, I've setup everything (I think) on my VOXL Flight Deck. My microhards are paired. I'm able to SSH into the VOXL over the Microhard network. PX4 is setup to allow comms:
      1d28f345-f143-4391-8d15-da4f145a789a-image.png
      voxl-vision-px4 is configured:
      c9fe79cc-af62-4775-a2ec-bd478629f107-image.png
(Yes my GCS IP is 192.168.168.52)

I'm pretty sure my mavlink server config is right:
      4b363fc3-da03-4069-ad10-9cbb08c1972a-image.png

I can't connect and I can't see any UDP messages being broadcasted to me. Honestly, I'm stumped. This feels like it should have been pretty straight forward for someone that has been setting up drone networks for years now but I am completely at a loss right now. Any help would be useful.
