Clarification on Livox Mid 360 LiDAR Compatibility with VOXL 2 on Starling 2 Max Outdoor Drone
-
Hello ModalAI Team,
I am currently planning to work with the Starling 2 Max Outdoor Drone and looking into integrating a Livox Mid 360 LiDAR for mapping purposes. I would like to clarify the following:
- Does the VOXL 2 on the Starling 2 Max support the mounting and operation of the Livox Mid 360 LiDAR?
- If not natively supported, is there a recommended interface or adapter to establish compatibility?
- Is there a USB extension or specific cable available to connect the Livox Mid 360 to the VOXL 2, considering the power and data transmission requirements?
I appreciate any guidance or documentation you can provide on this integration.
Thank you!

@Thasindu-Wickrama We have no experience with this sensor.

Starling 2 Max is built using VOXL 2, which is an open development platform. You can find details on VOXL 2 I/O here: https://docs.modalai.com/voxl2-connectors/

@Eric-Katzfey have you tried any other lidar (2D or 3D one) with the voxl board?

@Moderator does the c29 variant includes the thermal camera? Its not clear as per the webpage information.

@Thasindu-Wickrama No, we use TOF for depth in indoor environments. In outdoor environments we have used stereo cameras. And we have used single point lidar for distance (height) sensing. How did you want to integrate a LiDAR? Would it be a PX4 driver?
