VOXL2 stuck in fastboot on power cycle
-
We are seeing an issue where when we power cycle our UAV, our voxl2 goes into fastboot mode and never exits. We have to wait 5-7 minutes for the UAV to sit there unpowered until we can go again.
Our voxl2 is plugged into a circuit board that is custom made. There is still some resident power in the circuit board when we power off. I am wondering if this is the reason why we need to wait 5-7 minutes with no power to get it to boot correctly again.
Or...is it possible that this could be a thermal problem.
Any insight would be helpful. Thank you

this also has a 5G carrier board attached

Hi @wilkinsaf
I would like to reach out to you over email/phone. I would like to better understand your system and how it is designed.Hang tight, I'll contact you shortly.
Thanks! -
Hey Vinny, thank you for the reply. Yes, if Friday works that would be great! We are also thinking it might be a thermal issue (and at least we actually capture data on that to see).
Will reach out to you directly and we can setup a time, then post our findings here incase someone else runs into this issue

Small update on this. We are still working on the root cause, but one thing that was pointed out by Vinny is we should NOT use a Telit modem on the 5G hat. While the Telit is m.2 form factor, the m.2 standard is not strict. Telit made their own changes that require a different carrier board. So, if you are reading this, and are using a 5G carrier board that only supports Quectel...it means it only supports quectel.

Small update, I have not been able to recreate this issue with a bench test no matter how long I leave the UAV on for. Might need to do flight tests to recreate issue. For the meantime I am going to chalk this up to using the telit modem instead of the recommended Quectel

Hi @wilkinsaf
I was just thinking about your issue was going to ping you for an update.
Well, yes, good that it is not repeatable, but bummer we do not know why you had it in the first place so we can all learn why.
More importantly, I hope that Voxl2 is functioning correct given the error condition from the non-Quectel modem that was introduced. I also hope you verified your PDB board has the correct grounding scheme.Ping on us again if you need any extra help/tips/etc.
Best option is always a new thread, or make sure to tag me on on existing threads. Thanks!
