    • M0184 ELRS reciever bricks itself upon switching output mode to SBUS

      Hello,

I'm trying to use the Zorro Blue transmitter (MRC-Z0001-1) and ELRS 'blue' receiver (MDK-M0184-1-01) as the RC control for a non-ModalAI aircraft that requires SBUS or PPM input to its autopilot.

I was able to bind the TX and RX out of the box via the transmitter menu, and access the receiver settings through the transmitter once bound. The LED pattern on the receiver showed normal functionality (both solid). However, since the default output protocol of the RX is CRSF my autopilot couldn't see the input, as expected. I then changed the 'Protocol' setting at the top of the receiver options to SBUS (again via the TOOLS - > ExpressLRS menu on the transmitter) and power cycled.

Since then the receiver has been non-functional.
Both green and red led's light up when the receiver is powered, but they both go away within a second and there is no pattern or light of any kind from either. This is really strange since that's not a listed option on the LED pattern page for ELRS (https://www.expresslrs.org/quick-start/led-status/#receivertransmitter-led-status) The transmitter does not see the receiver and so I am unable to change any receiver settings that way.

I've also tried reflashing the RX via your documentation here: https://docs.modalai.com/elrs-configurator/ but the configurator fails to initialize the com port or establish any sort of communication with the receiver, output from the relevant part of that process inserted below as a code section.
I've tried two different types of RS232 / TTL UART to USB adapters and swapped RX/TX all with the same result.

I also retried the entire process with a second fresh out of the box RX and got the same result. I did verify the RX and TX worked properly after bind though power cycling before changing the protocol to SBUS again, which bricked a second receiver. The second receiver also has the same LED behavior.

I did not update or modify the firmware or any other parameters on either the TX or RX before this, so everything is defaults other than the one protocol setting I changed.

Looking for any advice on how to proceed and get this RX/TX pair working, I really need to get this specific ELRS system working as my team needs NDAA compliance but also the performance of ELRS.

    • RE: RB5 Ethernet Add-on

      Chad,

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

      2 Follow on questions:

      • for the RB5 specifically, do you suggest using the main usb-c port, or the modem carrier board J12 usb connector, or do I need to replace the modem carrier board with the VOXL USB Expansion?

      • Is there a pinout for the modem carrier board on the RB5, as opposed to the main 'flight carrier board'? I only know that the J12 modem carrier connector is a usb connection because of this photo on the functional description page: https://docs.modalai.com/images/datasheet/RB5/rb5-labeled-2.png

    • RB5 Ethernet Add-on

In the RB5 documentation a "Gigabit Ethernet add-on with USB 3.1 Hub" is listed as an "Optional Expansion Add-On" along with the 5G modem and an SD card expansion. https://docs.modalai.com/Qualcomm-Flight-RB5-functional-description/

Is this currently available? I cannot find reference to it anywhere else.
I would like to integrate a third party radio with an Ethernet interface (Doodle labs RM-2450) with the RB5.

      Thanks

    • RE: RB5 PPM rc input support

The specific reciever I need to use is the 'Jeti Duplex EX R6L 2.4GHz Mini Receiver'
      https://shop.jetiusa.com/Jeti-Duplex-EX-R6L-2-4GHz-Mini-Receiver-w-Telemetr-p/jetir6lus.htm

The supported outputs are PPM and 'UDI', which I can't find much documentation on, but seems to be similar to the SRXL protocol.

      Thanks

    • RB5 PPM rc input support

      Hello all,

Is anyone aware of a way to use PPM style RC receiver input with the RB5? Is there a way to set the J12 connector UART to look for PPM instead of 'DSM' style input?

I've searched the documentation but cannot find anything on this topic, and the only available connection seems to be the J12 RC input connector. The VOXL/M500 boards have a dedicated PPM input connector, but that seems to have been dropped on the RB5.

I have a specific need to use a receiver other than the included spektrum satellite one.
