Quectel Modem issues
-
Good morning,
Having trouble connecting to network now, no changes to setup was flying over 5G the other day. Now I am not able to establish connection. Sim is good and is the same one I flew with. verified good 5G coverage and works with cellphone. Typically just powering Sentinel connects to wwan0 and tailscale.voxl2:/usr/bin$ ./voxl-modem-start.sh

@JustinDev23 Is the
voxl-modem
systemd service running in the background at the same time? If so you'll want to stop it:systemctl stop voxl-modem
Usually a SIM card not being detected is a hardware issue, it's possible the SIM slot is failing. If you fully remove the SIM card does it give the exact same issue?
-
I would also double check that the M0090 add-on board is fully seated on the VOXL2 as well as that the quectel modem is fully seated in the M0090. A hard landing / crash could cause these to become not fully seated.
-
@tom i did stop/disable voxl-modem to troubleshoot. I did verify the board was seated properly as well and luckily no hard landings yet. Sim card is fully functional in a cell phone and was the same one i used last week for testing with no issues. I changed the APN to a few others to double check and get the same results.
quectel-CM commands show the same results.
-
@JustinDev23 Right, that's why I'm thinking maybe the SIM card slot itself on the M0090 is failing. Does it detect other SIM cards? If not, that's likely the culprit.
-
@tom is that a common thing to have issues with? I have pretty good experience with PCBs and there does not look like any pin damage or lifting of the cage. It may have a total of 10 times for sim card removal. Again, it was working fine, powered off and when I went to power back on this week it was failing.
-
@JustinDev23 I think our technicians have seen it maybe once or twice during the testing process out of the hundreds of M0090s we've processed, but it's something that's tested so would be caught if it was faulty. Like you said it was working before.
So, no it's definitely not common, I'm just a bit stumped as to what otherwise would be the root cause of this.
-
@tom is this something i can ship back via RMA to see what is causing it to fail?
-
@JustinDev23 Definitely. See here: https://www.modalai.com/pages/rma
