# Unable to setup compass

Hello there!

I tried to configure my VOXL2 (1.0.0) with a custom airframe using QGC. However, I encountered an error message when attempting to calibrate the compass:

"Start the individual calibration steps by clicking one of the buttons to the left.
[cal] calibration started: 2 mag
No mags found
[cal] calibration failed: mag"

Any information or assistance would be greatly appreciated!

@RiveraDn What magnetometer are you using? It appears that your magnetometer driver is not working properly.

Hey @Eric-Katzfey, I'm using the GPS included with the VOXL2 Flight Deck (https://www.modalai.com/products/voxl-2-gps-mag-rc-assembly?variant=40673762836531).
Do you have any tips on how to update/fix the driver? Just a side note, it was working perfectly fine before I updated to 1.0.0 (previous suite was 0.9.4).

@RiveraDn What about the GPS, is that working fine? And the big LED on top of the unit, is it illuminating?

@Eric-Katzfey As for now, it is blinking with a red color. I was able to do a compass calibration, but it does not show the location in the map. I'll try to investigate on the matter. Thank you for your responses.

I have the same problem before — turns out the compass setup finally worked after I did a full sensor recalibration in QGroundControl and made sure the GPS/compass was facing the right direction. Worth a try if you haven’t done that yet!
