# Platform release vs System Image... what's the difference?

We have several VOXL1 (APQ8096) systems in our group and need to better coordinate that all systems are running the same software.  
Is there a difference between "[Flashing a system image](https://docs.modalai.com/flash-system-image/)" and "[installing a new platform release](https://docs.modalai.com/platform-releases/#5-configure-software)"?

Also, related to this, what's the scoop with [voxl-configure-opkg](https://docs.modalai.com/configure-opkg/)?  It's not in the latest system as best I can tell.

Hi @Ed-Sutter,

A platform release just includes the latest sdk along with the system image build. As for voxl-configure-opkg, this was replaced by voxl-configure-pkg-manager with the same functionality.
