I am wondering if anyone have experience using a Futaba RC system instead of Spektrum with the VOXL2?

The VOXL 2 I/O board can be used for S.bus support. That might be what you're looking for?

With Futaba/FrSky/FlySky/TBS/Immersion/etc you just have to look if it's inverted S.Bus or not. There is also some mini inverters PCBs, i.e.: (naze32 does not have anything related to this inverter, works with any flight controller/signal)
